On March 8th 2020, I took my son Vincent to Lake McClure to pre fish for an upcoming law enforcement derby. I haven’t fished lake McClure in some time, so instead of fishing areas I typically catch fish, I decided to fish completely new areas I knew nothing about. I started off throwing an under spin tipped with a 4.8 keitech swimbait. The bites were unlimited as I slow rolled that presentation in anywhere from 2-25 feet of water. The stained water was slightly more productive in comparison to the super clear water.

I noticed in the super clear water the fish wanted a 1/4 ounce ball head tipped with a 3.8 size speed shad. Regarding the specifics behind the areas we were fishing, the secondary points coming off the main lake showed 58 degree water temperature on my meter.

The conditions were post frontal, however a small storm cell settled in over the lake, which provided a lights sprinkling of intermittent showers. After catching our fair share of fish, with the size being consistent towards the average cookie cutter Lake McClure spotted bass, we decided to leave and come back another day closer to the tournament.
