Water temperature:  75 to 80 degrees depending on where your at on the lake.

Water clarity: 2 to 4 ft

Water level: 115 to 120 feet from full. Dropping about a foot every 2 weeks. For those anglers headed to Lake New Melones be very aware when on the water. With the low water level there are lots of island tops and trees that aren’t marked that are just under the surface. The further upriver you go the worse it gets.

Bass fishing is good right now with both quantity and quality showing up. Smaller crankbaits, smaller topwaters, smaller keitechs and dropshot are all catching them good. For topwater throw whopper ploppers and walking style baits. For keitech swimbaits throw the 2.8 or the 3.3 on a ball head or an underspin. For dropshot color preference has not been an issue. Topwater bite has been best during low light hours but can catch fish all day. For those looking to target better quality fish try throwing a lunker punker over island tops mid afternoon. Also throwing a little creepers trash fish 4 to 6 inch bluegill throughout the day will help your chance of getting a bigger bite. Last but not least throwing that Balam 245 gives you that chance at a giant. Well hope this info helps on your next fishing trip. Tight lines, rips some lips and have some fun.
