The Humpback Chub is native to the Colorado River system in Nevada, primarily found in Lake Mead and the lower Colorado River below Hoover Dam. Listed as federally endangered under the Endangered Species Act since 1967 (reclassified to threatened in 2021), this species is fully protected with no harvest allowed. The Nevada Department of Wildlife cooperates with federal agencies on recovery efforts, and populations in Lake Mead represent one of the few remaining strongholds outside the Grand Canyon.
