Programs & Recognition

Nevada Native Fish Slam

Anglers must catch one each of six native sport fish species and document the waterbody, date of capture, and a photo of each fish. Species required: Lahontan Cutthroat Trout, Bonneville Cutthroat Trout, Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout, Redband Trout, Bull Trout, and Mountain Whitefish. No weight or length measurements required. Fish must be taken legally from Nevada waters. All photos submitted become property of NDOW and may be used in NDOW publications. No time limit for completing the slam, but entry form must be submitted within 60 days of each catch. Upon completing all species, anglers receive a certificate and custom hat. In 2026, a new native trout medallion will be awarded to participants who complete the challenge. Anglers visiting eastern Nevada have the unique advantage of completing the entire slam within Elko and White Pine counties. Subsequent slams cannot begin until at least one month after the preceding slam is awarded; only a certificate (no hat) is awarded for additional slams.
