Weathers been really nice

by MATT KOLES / Gilligan's Fly Service
4th of July weekend. Big weekend in Lake Tahoe, and on the Truckee River. Lots of folks in town. Just try to go Safeway in Truckee, I dare you.  Weathers been really nice. Not too hot at all. In fact cold in the mornings. That should change a bit this week, and we'll get back to more Summer /hotter weather. That should put trouts back into

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY / Riviera Marina
This is a great example of a successful catch-and-release fishing experience! Local angler Matt Felder was fishing from shore when he landed an impressive 43-inch striped bass. He had been targeting smaller stripers with anchovies and was catching fish in the 1- to 3-pound range. As I've mentioned before, fishing with anchovies usually produces the smaller stripers, which make excellent table fare. Every now and then,

Trout fishing is good in the early mornings and late evenings

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Rainbow trout, brown trout, tiger trout and wiper were stocked this spring. Trout fishing is good in the early mornings and late evenings, with most catches measuring 12″-18″ and several over 20″. Nymphs under and indicator and dry fly patterns are preferred with warming temperatures. Spin casters will have luck floating PowerBait or worms just off the bottom. Bass fishing is good, with fish hanging

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY / Riviera Marina
I had to dig this one up since the fishing has slowed down a bit. This was on the billboard at the end of town by the Laughlin Bridge. It's me holding a fish with Allen Cole, who was inducted into the Fishing Hall of Fame for his AC Plug and his outstanding fishing accomplishments. This is one of the larger stripers he landed, weighing

The pond has reopened and has been stocked with trout this season

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The pond has reopened and has been stocked with trout this season. Pink floating power worms fished off the bottom are a favorite at Davis. Small dry flies can be fun fishing early and late in the day.

Closing weekend for the fishing season

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Pyramid Lake is currently full, and the boat launch remains open. It is the closing weekend for fishing season at Pyramid Lake. The last day of the season is June 30th. Most anglers are finding the best success from float tubes, kayaks, or boats while fishing depths around 50 feet. Most fish are being caught using Pyramid-style jigs, Sierra Spoons, midges, balanced leeches, and various

Lots of good looking rainbows

Current Water Conditions Flows measuring 250 CFS out of Tahoe City, 257 CFS through the town of Truckee, 304 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 700 CFS near Farad. Water temperatures are starting to increase with the warmer weather pattern the area is seeing. Because of that, early mornings and evenings are the best chances to get the most bites. Water clarity is fantastic. Wading conditions

Great river conditions

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Overall, conditions on the river are great. The flows are right at average for this time of year, and so are water temps. As expected for this time of year, we have begun to see some sections of the river near hoot owl levels and with these rising water temps, we encourage anglers to really focus on the morning hours at this point. If fishing

Fishing has improved slightly during the early morning hours

by DOUG BUSEY / Carson Now
Fishing has improved slightly during the early morning hours. Once the jet skiers and recreational boaters arrive, the bite tends to slow down. Remember the rules of boating: reduce your speed to a no-wake zone when within 100 to 200 feet of a swimming area, beach, or moored vessel. If your wake causes damage, you can be held liable. Let’s all stay safe on the water.

The mackinaw have been scattered throughout the water column

by DOUG BUSEY / Carson Now
The mackinaw have been scattered throughout the water column. One day they’re deep, and the next they’re suspended. Keep an eye on your sonar to ensure your presentation is in the right area and depth. Cave Rock, particularly along the southwest side near the rocks and knolls, has been producing good fish. The Camp Richardson area offers an early-morning bite with jigs or by trolling

Mixed Bag Action on Tahoe

by ROBERT VARIK / Tahoe Trophy Trout
Fishing on Lake Tahoe was a mixed bag this week. A few jumbo lake trout were landed, with the biggest weighing up to 23 pounds. Kokanee salmon are starting to show up, and anglers are beginning to catch a few. Some decent rainbow trout and brown trout have also been caught randomly around the lake. Fishing should continue to improve as more kokanee move into the area
