The Mottled Sculpin is native to Nevada in the Humboldt River drainage system in the northern part of the state. This small benthic fish inhabits cool, clear streams with rocky substrates. Populations in Nevada represent the western edge of the species' continental range and are adapted to the cold-water tributaries of the Humboldt basin.
