The White River Spinedace is endemic to Nevada's White River drainage in eastern Nevada, historically found in the mainstem White River and tributaries. Listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act in 1985, the species faces threats from habitat loss, water diversion, and competition with non-native fish. Critical habitat was designated in portions of Lincoln and Nye counties. The Nevada Department of Wildlife cooperates with USFWS on recovery efforts. Recreational fishing for this species is prohibited due to its protected status.
