Lahontan Redside (Richardsonius egregius)

The Lahontan redside is native to Nevada's Lahontan basin, including the Truckee, Carson, and Walker river systems, as well as tributaries to Pyramid and Walker lakes. This minnow is an important forage species in the state's native fish community and plays a role in the food web supporting larger native predators like Lahontan cutthroat trout. The species is adapted to the alkaline waters characteristic of Nevada's closed basin systems.
