The White River Springfish is endemic to Nevada's White River Valley in eastern Nye and Lincoln counties, historically inhabiting thermal springs and outflows. Listed as federally endangered since 1985, the species faces threats from groundwater pumping and habitat degradation. The Nevada Department of Wildlife works with federal agencies on recovery efforts. Populations persist in several spring systems including Ash Springs and other isolated thermal refugia within its native range. Recreational fishing is prohibited.
