The Pahrump poolfish is endemic to Nevada's Pahrump Valley in Nye County, where it historically inhabited warm spring pools and outflows. Listed as federally endangered since 1967, wild populations were extirpated by the 1970s due to groundwater pumping and habitat loss. The species now persists only in refugia maintained by the Nevada Department of Wildlife, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and partner organizations. It is fully protected under the Endangered Species Act, and no take or possession is permitted.
