In Nevada
Mosquitofish were introduced to Nevada in the early 1900s for mosquito control and are now widespread in warm springs, irrigation ditches, ponds, and slow-moving waters throughout the state, particularly in southern Nevada. The Nevada Department of Wildlife considers them established non-native fish. They thrive in the warm waters of the Las Vegas Valley and other low-elevation areas, often dominating shallow habitats where few native species can compete.
