It appears that Washoe Lake is in recovery mode. As you can see from our picture, there is water in Washoe Lake. The drought has taken its toll on the lake which was virtually empty for some time. However, the rainfall this Fall and Winter, combined with snowmelt, has resulted in a lake that is nearly full of water.

Washoe Lake was regularly stocked prior to 2000. Today I spoke with Kim Tisdale of the Nevada Department of Wildlife. “Washoe Lake historically has Channel Catfish, White Bass and Carp,” said Tisdale. In addition, she said, “Our fish hatcheries do not produce warm water fish so we have to purchase them from a third party!” She continued and said, “Washoe Lake is on the list for a stocking of Channel Catfish this Summer. There is a chance this may happen!”

Hopefully, we get some fish this Summer and get to enjoy Washoe Lake. One thing is for certain, the ducks and geese have returned!

Nevada Fish Reports was started in 2016 to help anglers get fishing news.
