Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery Fish Report for 8-14-2019
Free Kids Fishing Saturday
Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery - Mt Shasta, CA (Shasta County)
by Gary Heffley
This Saturday August 17, the final free kids fishing day event will be held at the Mt Shasta Fish Hatchery located just west of the town of Mt Shasta and Highway 5. Last month over 535 young anglers participated and caught some nice trout during the July event sponsored through the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and many supporting individuals and organizations.
This is an excellent family fun experience where every child that is old enough to help hold the fishing rod and help reel in the fish to the age of 15 years and 364 days can take part. It is the perfect place to introduce a youngster to fishing as there are plenty of trout to go around, a place where catching takes the place of just fishing and waiting. For those who don't have fishing outfits and tackle there are plenty of rods and reels to borrow and hooks, bobbers and bait are supplied. There are also plenty of volunteers on hand to assist anglers, give instruction and offer encouragement.
The only things to remember is an ice chest to take the trout home in and a camera to capture the memories. Also with the warm/hot temperatures remember to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and cold fluids. Fishing is from 9:00am until 3:00pm, so come early while its cool.
As one of the many volunteers I hope to see many happy faces this Saturday as the weather will be beautiful, the trout biting and with the backdrop of Mt Shasta there is no place I would rather be.
