EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is now running at about 140 cfs and is fishing very well. The nymphing action as well as the streamer action has picked up very nicely this past week. Most of the anglers we’ve talked to have been getting into 10+ fish per day, with a few of them getting into more than 20. There are lots of smaller fishing making an appearance, in the 10 to 15 inch range but there are still some good numbers of larger fish around 20” also making a showing. With the conditions the way they are right now, it’s a great time to be on the river, both on the California and Nevada sides.

Patterns to try: Blow torch, rainbow warrior, rainbow assasin, zebra midge, flashback emerger, wd-40, micro mayfly, San Juan worms, squirmy wormy’s, top secret midge, pheasant tail, copper John, zuddler, Dali Lama, sculpzilla, jj special, moal leech, double bunny.

SCEIRINE RANCH

The ranch is fishing very well lately with the lower flow, there are lots of nice fish up to around 22” cruising the ranch right now, some rainbows but mostly browns. They’re eating worms, small nymphs and rubberlegs really well down there right now. We’ve got quite a few reservations out for the next few weeks so if you want to get on the water be sure to try to give us a call ahead of time.

HUNEWILL POND

We didn’t have any anglers on the pond this week but with the colder weather the weeds should be going away and the fishing should be pretty good by now. The leech fishing should be good with small leeches like a Mayers mini leech as well as slow stripping some soft hackles or small damsel patterns. Give us a call if you want to book some time on the pond!

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

The reservoir was a little hit and miss this past week, there were a couple really good days and a couple days that were not so good. On the good days the trolling produced some good fish, with rainbows up to around 5 pounds and browns up to just over 4 pounds making a showing. It’s good to see lots of anglers releasing most of these nice browns too! There have been a few fish being caught from the shore down near the dam as well, it’s not red hot by any means but they are getting a few, mostly with bait down there, power bait, inflated crawlers, mice tails and pinched crawlers. It seems like the fish might be moving around a lot, if you get out there in a boat just keep searching for them until you find a good area where they are biting, then stick around there.

KIRMAN LAKE

We talked to one angler who make the hike up to Kirman this week, he was able to catch 3 fish while he was there. 2 brooks in the 14” range and one cutty in the 22” range. He spend over 8 hours working it hard for these three fish, all caught on seal bugger patterns. This is pretty good news I think, even though the fishing isn’t red hot, at least it’s good to know there are some quality fish starting to show up!

TWIN LAKES

The Twins have been producing a few fish lately, like the other lakes it’s not red hot but if you work it you should be able to get a nice fish here and there. Working the shoreline with lures in the morning and evening is a good bet as well as throwing some bait during the daytime and moving from point to point if the action is slow. Pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers seem to have been the most productive baits and Rapalas and Kastmasters have produced a few fish as well.

WEST WALKER RIVER

We didn’t get many reports from the West this week but the water is surely low and clear and you should be able to pull some fish with eggs and crawlers for the bait anglers, Panther Martins and Mepps spinners for the lure anglers. Fly anglers should still be able to get some hits in the afternoon with hopper/dropper rigs, at least as long as it still gets warm that time of the day. If it doesn’t warm up enough for the hoppers try soft hackles, prince nymphs and pheasant tails on the bottom.

VIRGINIA LAKES

We had a few really good reports from the Virginias this week with some anglers reporting catching 30+ fish per day from tubes! Bouncing mini jigs along the bottom seemed to be the hot ticket this week with lots of fish being caught that way. Fly anglers have been successful with streamers patterns like seal buggers, wooly buggers and mini leeches. The shore fishing has been slower but they’re getting some fish with mice tails, inflated crawlers and pinched crawlers.

RANDOM INFORMATION:

Oct. 20, 2019 - Deer season is over now, it seemed to be a pretty good season for most of the hunters, we’ll have to wait to see what the success rate was but we definitely saw some really good bucks come in. Duck/goose season is now open in our area. Traffic has slowed down quite a bit in the area now, as it usually does this time of the year. The Fall colors are starting to hit the ground so if you want to see any of that this year you should do it right away.
