Much of the same last week on the Truckee River.

Much of the same weather wise, but going to get much colder overnight this week. We’ve had sunny warm days, cold nights. We’ve had good fishing on the nymphing front. Not much happening on the streamer front. We’ll get into the teens this week in Truckee overnight, much colder in the Truckee Meadows overnight too.

Hard to get the big trouts when the weather ain’t down. We had a dry, very warm October. Not good for slinging the streamers. Fine for the bead heads on the bottom, but getting those big fish to chase, not so much. I try to tell folks, November is a way better month out East on the Lower Truckee River in Nevada. Still, everyone books their trips in October. Probably because they went to the Madison one year and did well in October. It’s just to darn warm here in October in Western Nevada. Typically, you have lower flows, bright sun, and spooky fish. Clouds and some wind and low pressure make them more comfortable, and more likely to eat. November is kinda our start to fall/winter weather nowadays. October is our late summer-typically.

So, going into November, I’m much more confident in the big fish eating on the lower river. Up here in the Hirsch, gonna be tough with the lower clear, cold water. Until we get some rain, just not the easiest conditions to catch fish in, up here.
