Water Conditions

Normally, the flows on the the Little Truckee River are lower than what they are for this time of year. Flows are currently averaging around 100 CFS between Boca and Stampede reservoirs. Due to this system getting a lot of pressure from anglers, fish are easily spooked so stealthy tactics are important.

Tips for the Week

When there isn’t a hatch happening on the Little Truckee River, anglers should be nymphing with small nymphs for best results. Very small strike indicators, 6x tippets, and small flies are the best way to fish the selective fish on the Little Truckee. Some hatches of pale morning duns and midges are happening in the early afternoon. Most fish are still are hanging around the quick water which contains more oxygen, so look for fish behind structures and in the faster pockets.

Suggested Flies

Some suggested flies to try on the Little Truckee River this week are Size 20 zebra midges, small mayfly nymphs, tiny midge dries and small mayflies.
