September has always been a good time for fat Shasta Lake Rainbow trout. Yesterday on the lake definitely continued to strengthen that statement.

My client Laurie landed some fantastic fat Shasta Rainbow trout while trolling small shad pattern plugs lathered in ProCure threadfinshad gel. You could not have asked for a better way to spend your birthday, reeling in these drag ripping fish. The key was locating the shad bait balls then trolling around them for biting fish.

We caught most the Trout between 40 and and 70 feet, not every bait ball produced biting fish so covering some ground was key. The fish we did catch were stuffed with shad, this makes the meat of these trout a beautiful orange color and tremendous table fair.

Checkout the pictures and enjoy.

I have few open dates before I start fishing the Klamath river in October. Give me a call 530 905 0758 or book online at Caldwellfishing.com
