Water Conditions

The flows on the Little Truckee River have been consistent over this past week as they lower the lake level in Stampede. The consistent flows have provided good cover and safety for the browns which spawn on the Little Truckee this time of year. Please be mindful of these fish and try not to target them. Water temperatures are around 56 degrees and the current flows on the Truckee River are at 140 CFS between Boca and Stampede.

Tips for the Week

Right now, anglers can find some great evening caddis hatches in the upper pools near the dam on the Little Truckee. The inlet is seeing it’s fall callibaetis hatch in the middle of the day with the spinners falling early in the morning. If it’s early enough, anglers can fish the spinners for a couple of hours, then switch to nymphs, then back to PMDs in the afternoon. This time of the year anglers should be on the lookout for a blue winged olive hatch as well.

Suggested Flies

Some suggested flies to try on the Little Truckee River right now are AK’s Callibaetis Spinner, Mayday Callibaetis, Parachute Adams size 16, Hot Creek Caddis, and E/C Caddis.
