Paul Clouse, Al Hurwitz, and Abel Wong had one of their best fishing days ever at Los Vaqueros Reservoir on April 23, 2026! We caught 12 Mt. Lassen Rainbow Trout and released one, while flatline trolling Jointed Rapalas in various sections of Cox Cove. The fish were caught about 6-8 feet below the surface, trolling at 2.0 mph. Scent was applied to the lures. The aggregate weight of the 11 kept Trout was 28 pounds. Pictured here are Al (blue coat), Abel (red hat), and Paul (gray sleeveless jacket) displaying the catch.
The water clarity was excellent, with a surface temperature ranging from 60-64 degrees as the day warmed. The afternoon bite slowed as direct sunlight and warmer temperatures diminished the bite. Nonetheless, the overall fishing experience was spectacular, with aggressive strikes, surface jumps, and boatside acrobatics by the Trout.
Nearby PowerBait fishermen had terrific success as well, some limiting out in the AM hours.
We made a brief trolling excursion to East Cove, but had no success there.
Fishing at the reservoir is hot right now, and we urge all interested to hit the water!
We will see you soon and appreciate the staff’s support.
All the best,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
Abel Wong Sunnyvale
