Current Water Conditions

Spring conditions on the Truckee River are in full swing. With flows measuring 352 CFS out of Tahoe City, 425 CFS through town of Truckee, 548 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 1200 CFS near Farad. Water clarity is really clear for anglers at this time and wading conditions are good from the Tahoe City to Boca outlet. Anglers can expect good conditions throughout the entire day.

Water Temperatures

Water temperatures are steady in the mid 40s°F and reaching the low 50s°F by mid-afternoon.

Hatches

Anglers can expect a few hatches of caddis, blue winged olives, PMDs, and baetis throughout the day.

Effective Tactics

Euro nymphing and streamer fishing have been the most effective methods at this time. On cloudy days, streamers are producing the best results. For anglers euro nymphing, use longer leaders and a 10 foot 4 weight rod to get down in the faster runs. Focus on upstream drifts for a more natural presentation. Fishing deep pockets behind boulders and structures can also catch more bites. Crayfish and ants have been seeing the most bites this week.

Catch Report

Most fish are being caught from the town of Truckee down to the outflow of the Little Truckee River. After that, the water gets really big. Fish range in size, but catch rates are improving. Mostly rainbows with the occasional brown.
