We’re fortunate to have a great fishery here along the shores of the Colorado River. Anglers are enjoying excellent success both from shore and by boat, especially when targeting striped bass. While smallmouth bass can also be found in the area, striped bass continue to dominate the local fishery.

Rainbow trout are still being caught, but anglers will need to locate the right hole or back eddy to improve their chances of hooking one.

Local angler Richard Jenkins recently fished from shore near the Parkway Bridge and landed an impressive 8.94-pound striped bass. The fish measured 30 inches in length and was caught using anchovies.

Current striped bass regulations vary by location. Below Davis Dam, the daily bag limit is 10 striped bass per person with no size limit. Above the dam, regulations differ. Arizona and Nevada have removed both the bag and size limits for striped bass in many waters, encouraging anglers to harvest fish and help maintain a healthy population. In waters shared with California, however, the daily limit remains 10 fish.

On Lake Mohave, the striped bass bite continues to be strong. Anglers are having success with anchovies as well as a variety of lures. A white bucktail jig trolled slowly can be particularly effective for catching quality-sized fish.
