Current Water Conditions
Flows measuring 273 CFS out of Tahoe City, 282 CFS through the town of Truckee, 299 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 549 CFS near Farad. Flows are great for this time of the year and the watermaster is still releasing a good bit of water from Lake Tahoe into the Upper Truckee River. Water temperatures are getting warmer with peak summer conditions here, so the best times to fish are early in the mornings to prevent stressing the fish out. Fishing mid-day can increase the chance of bleedouts.
Water Temperatures
Water temperatures are rising daily. Expect water temps to be in the high 50s°F at first light and creeping into the mid to high 60s°F during mid-day. Most of the colder water is below Boca reservoir. Always test water temperatures before fishing to be sure you aren’t stressing the fish out.
Hatches
Summer is in full swing and most of the main hatches are caddis, pale morning duns, and golden stones.
Effective Tactics
Euro nymphing in the mornings continues to be the most effective tactic. Once the fish start to rise, anglers can try switching over to dry flys, or drydropper setups. With it being peak summer conditions, anglers nymphing in the morning have been having the most success. For anglers nymphing, focus on the faster pocket water and use a decent amount of weight to fish deep. With crawdads in their molting stage, anglers can also get some bites imitating various crawdad patterns.
Catch Report
With the flows still good throughout the river, anglers can have success from Tahoe City to the Nevada state line, but the bite is best from the Glenshire area through the canyon. Most of the colder water is below Boca.
