UPCOMING CLOSURE: Visitors to Steptoe Valley and Kirch wildlife management areas should be aware of temporary reservoir closures planned for the week of Aug. 31.
Weather permitting, Comins Reservoir at Steptoe Valley WMA and Adams-McGill Reservoir at Kirch WMA will temporarily close while NDOW crews conduct herbicide treatments targeting overabundant cattails and hardstem bulrush.
The work will help improve habitat for waterfowl and shorebirds while also improving access for hunters and anglers.
Closures are expected to begin Aug. 31 and could remain in place through Sept. 4, although the reservoirs may reopen sooner if treatment is completed as planned. Exact timing will depend on weather and field conditions.
We’ll share updates as the work progresses. Thank you for your patience
