There is a lot of information to cover to bring you up to speed on what has been happening here on the Northern Sierra waters over the course of the last month. Let's start with Almanor. The fall bite is going strong currently here at the lake and really all over the lake. Recent trips have my boat at a variety of locations around Almanor from top to bottom and fishing multiple techniques to hook my customers up. A variety of factors can come into play when selecting the locations we will fish on a particular day, chief among them are the conditions on the lake such as wind. Wind, especially strong wind, may be the deciding factor on what side of the lake or peninsula has the most fishable conditions. Wind also may affect which techniques I employ once we are there. It is nice to have options and right now the options are plentiful. Customer requests also come into play, and I try my best to accommodate them into the process. These may include wanting to fish a particular area of the lake, or a certain style of fishing. Slow trolling, fast trolling, downriggers, toplining and jigging are all options right now making for some great times out on the water. Currently we are seeing a mixed bag of Bows and Browns in a variety of sizes from nice fish to world class. The cooling waters of the lake have them aggressively feeding as we move towards winter, making them prime targets. Look for these bites to continue through the rest of this month, November and into the month of December.
This time of year, I also offer fly trolling trips on Eagle Lake, known for its fall bite and hard fighting Eagle Lake Trout. The fall action at Eagle Lake is well underway with a variety of areas around the lake kicking out fish. Most of my trips to Eagle have been all catch and release only keeping a few fish in recent weeks. The fish are in great shape with quality fish in the 20-to-23-inch range being caught. I you have caught them before you know these are hard-charging fish that hammer the flies on the initial hook up and provide some wild moments close to the boat. Toplining the Jay Fair trolling flies through the shallows is the way to go and puts little gear between you and these explosive fish. As mentioned earlier, fall is the prime time, I will continue to run these Eagle Lake trips through the third week of November.
Lake Almanor and Eagle Lake, two of the finest fall trout fisheries that Northern California has to offer. I do have a limited number of days available for both of these lakes late October and early November but once they're gone, they're gone. Don't miss your chance to get in on this exciting fall action. Check out the Booking Calendar to look for open dates or Contact Us today to check availability and book your dates.
