Water Conditions: Good
Flows are at 31cfs as of 4/14.
Paved road to entrance of Hot Creek ranch is completely dry. Access to the canyon section is a walk from there over pretty much dry ground. Gate should be open this weekend per USFS as soon as last big puddle just befor cattle guard dries up.
You can drive right up to the water at the Interpretive Center
Fishing conditions and Hatches: Excellent
Some big early spawners have shown up in the Interpretive Center section. Use small midges early and BWO's later in the morning and into the afternoon or continue to fish subsurface - big and buggy nymphs. It gets going by 9 am, sometimes earlier. Weekend temps close to 70F should really step up the hatches.
Recommended Flies:
DRIES: #20 Extended Body BWOs, #20 Griffith's Gnat, #20 High Vis Parachute BWO #20 Hackle Stacker BWO, CDC Baetis Dun 18-22, #20 Profile Baetis BWO, #20 Hatch Matcher
NYMPHS: #18 Olive Bird's Nest, #16 Flashback Hare's ear, #20 Olive Flashwing WD-40, #20 Split Case BWO, #16-18 Bead Head Flashback Pheasant Tails, #20 Barrs BWO emerger, #22 Black Beauty
STREAMERS: Big and gawdy is the plan, even saltwater flies 3-4" long if you can hurl them with your 5 weight.
