"Our first day in the lower zone was a huge success," observed Excel skipper Justin Fleck May 17. "After looking around for a bit we put the anchor down and went to work. It didn't take long before we had 100-plus skins on the board so we turned our attention to the tuna for the afternoon. Even though we could see them jumping around the boat, it was pretty tough to get through the wahoo. We did pick up a few nice ones for the day. Jan Howard wins big fish honors today with a 217-pounder hooked on the kite. Dave Rocchi plucked a nice fish out of the chunk line. His fish was just shy of the 200-pound mark.
