Norm Kagawa brought his Shogun home to Fisherman's Landing June 12 after an eight-day trip with 29 passengers. "We had some weather," said Norm. "We started on the 13 and the 23 Spot, and fished The Ridge for two and a half days. It was very good fishing on the iron. Then we went up to the bluefin area for a good day of fishing on them. We got 94 tuna, bluefin, from 30 to 90 pounds.

The best tuna was a 90.6-pound bluefin caught by Mark Shoemaker of El Sobrante, who said his fish bit right at dark and then fought for 20 minutes. He also had a 51.8-pound tuna. He used a sardine on a 4/0 ringed Owner Super Mutu hook to get his best bluefin ever. He fished with 40-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon, 60-pound Line One spectra on an Accurate 870 two-speed reel and a Calstar 700 MH rod. Mark said it was his best bluefin ever.

Jon Jagger of Glendale, AZ won second place for a 53-pound bluefin tuna. Andy Craig of Oceanside got a huge yellowtail on the jig. The 50.8-pound slug bit a Salas 7X chrome/green jig on 40-pound Izorline.

"A lot of us saw the strike," said Andy. "We were on the 13 Spot when he came up and hit it."
