Royal Polaris arrived at Fisherman's Landing June 24 after a seven-day trip with 32 anglers and Roy Rose at the helm. "Good sign, good fishing," remarked Rose, who had a mixed catch of yellowtail and bluefin tuna.

Andrew Pulm, a 16-year-old defensive lineman from Rancho Bernardo High won first place for a 97.7-pound bluefin tuna, largest caught so far this season. "He really kicked my butt," admitted Andrew, "for 45 minutes."

The big tuna bit on a mackerel, he said, pinned to a 7/0 ringed Owner Super Mutu hook. He used 50-pound blue Izorline on an Accurate 665 reel and a Sabre seven-foot rod.

Cristin Kelly of San Diego got her best fish ever, a 37.7-pound bluefin, which earned her second place. Troy Couch of Torrance won third place for a 34-pound bluefin tuna.
