Well, here we go heading down into what just may turn out to be the lion's den in a few days if the forecast track of Hurricane John is accurate. Nevertheless we should have two full days of good weather before the possibility of effects from the storm force a move back to the north. It seems like every year we face similar circumstances as hurricane season in the Eastern Tropical Pacific is in full swing around this time period. The one thing that every angler and concerned family member can rest assured of is that we NEVER gamble when it comes to these powerful storms always opting for retreat when it appears one may affect the areas we choose to fish. Catching fish or otherwise there is zero room for error when it comes to these storms and we know it, and therefore abide by the unwritten "forty eight hour rule", never letting the center of a storm close the distance to where we can't safely steer a northerly course to safe waters. With the latest technology in weather forecasting and regular satellite generated updates we (meaning the entire long range fleet) remain abreast of sea conditions and forecasts twenty four hours a day.
All that said we are presently on course for Guadalupe in beautiful weather heading for what we hope will be a productive beginning to our voyage despite dubious reports of poor conditions and slow fishing yesterday. The one thing we know for certain is that conditions can change quickly, and along with them the fishing, so we plan to make a go of it here today before considering other options.

This morning epitomized why we love fishing Guadalupe so much. At 0330 we started with a nice steady bite on 30-40lb yellows that bit until just before daylight when the 60-80lb tuna took over. After catching the first few tuna on dropper loops, the flylined baits starting getting bit and before we knew what hit us, there were eight hanging and it wasn't even daylight yet. When the smoke cleared at 0630 we called it a trip after an incredible...... Read More
