I may have bit off a little more than I should have committing to daily updates during our annual maintenance. In reality, reporting on the little details would lose the majority of your interest in very short order. Suffice to say this time of year is pure grunt work; nothing pretty about it. While we do love the challenge, and are always proud of the results, the actual doing part is of little interest unless one has an affinity for wrenching and/or repairing. For Royal Star anglers what may be of significance is the fact that we do all our own work; no farming out the tough jobs while we sit on our laurels. Randy, Brian, the entire Royal Star crew, and I join together and complete the big mechanical jobs as well as the cosmetic demands. It keeps us intimately familiar with our boat and all the equipment within. In addition, it instills a tremendous element of pride among the guys who have actually sweat invested in how Royal Star is presented to our customers.
I will keep the daily update section current during our down time, but not every day. News worthy items and events will be detailed, and I will add the occasional round of photos for readers to view our projects. Today's images show the average day of boat work. Captain Toussaint is hard at tending to the metal work while Gregg, Blake, and Paul prepare for a desperately need paint upgrade. I'll send a few shots of my rudder project when we start putting them back together. Enjoy the photos and thank you for reading.

2-26-2011Now that Royal Star has returned we will be sharing video clips and photos from the latest voyage over the next couple of weeks. Capt. Sims' is editing the material and posting to both our Facebook page and YouTube. We have some excellent material to finally address the many inquiries anglers make regarding the whole tagging process - how do we use the scoops to capture the tuna? Don't the tuna go crazy on deck during the tagging process? Isn't...... Read More

Take it from me: the express route is much easier than the long haul home. Not that I am seeking to avoid any share of the responsibility, but duty called to the north and I was duly reminded of the pleasure of returning home in two hours as opposed to three full days against prevailing winds, current, and seas. The beauty of the fly down/fly back format is that fishing time is compressed into the shortest amount of overall time...... Read More
