All business today; pure big fish preparation requiring focus and attention. Of course a bit of fun, a few hijinks, and a wealth of relaxation accompanied the effort. A bunch of stuffed shirts that take themselves too seriously these anglers are not, but there was a palpable change in tone when giant yellowfin rigging commenced; game faces were on.
Wavering down the road all day in primo, serene calm the plan was finally set in stone to the delight of all; none more so than this narrator. There are those occasions, actually more than less, when the pieces take their sweet time to fall into place. Not of particular comfort when the consequences of wrong decisions are so inconvenient such is the nature of this fishery, and why the majority of veterans at the helm of these rigs are seasoned far beyond their years.
We proceed at this point with optimism. Good weather in the forecast, good bait in the tanks, and sufficient time to achieve the objective. Late tomorrow the fishing begins. Photo's today feature another couple of long time Royal Star fishing veterans. Andy Pulido and Dave Cabot have both been here for the best of the best, and plenty of reality between high times. Beginning this voyage on a strong note these couple of "skin" were only a fraction the action for both men. Good times.

2-15-201502/14/15 And it continues. Eighty five fat skinnies were the product of a solid half days' work. The boys were hopping, the seas were calm, the fish were biting, there was nothing wrong; nothing worth mentioning anyway. The robust quantity of "skin"around Alijos, that flies in the face of every fishing paradigm all of us have ever known, shows no inclination of leaving. Conditions in the area are still what we would expect to find in the early summer, or toward...... Read More

02/13/15 Travel mode - flat calm, leisure, a little serious rigging, then the boys went on an afternoon tear. Yesterday's sweet evening reverie became full scale revelry today. Whoa. I can honestly report, from astute visual and audio observation, that a good time was had by all. These anglers do it right; a perfect combination of spirited conversation, group activities, and good natured ribbing. Fueled by keg, mind, and time the perpetual nature of such festivity is nigh assured to continue;...... Read More
