Haigler Creek - Haigler Creek, AZ

Spot Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout
Haigler Creek, located in the Tonto National Forest near Young, AZ, is a remote and scenic mountain stream that offers year-round opportunities for wild rainbow and brown trout. Unlike many Arizona creeks, Haigler is not regularly stocked, instead supporting naturally reproducing fish populations.

The creek’s cold, clear water flows through forested canyons and meadows, creating excellent habitat for trout. Most fish range from 8 to 14 inches, and larger browns can be found in deeper pools. Access is best via Forest Roads 200 and 291, with good fishing stretches near the Haigler Creek Campground and Ellison Creek.

Fly anglers often use dry-dropper combinations, terrestrials, and small nymphs. Spin fishermen find success using inline spinners and small jigs. Wading is safe and easy in most seasons, but anglers should watch for flash flooding during monsoon storms.

This is a walk-in fishery with minimal facilities, so anglers should come prepared for a remote outing. The surrounding terrain offers primitive camping, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

Haigler Creek is best suited to experienced anglers who appreciate wild fish and solitude. Its clear water, diverse holding water, and unspoiled setting make it one of Arizona’s premier backcountry trout streams.
