Lofton Reservoir, a secluded, high-elevation impoundment near Bly in south-central Oregon, presents a tranquil and consistently productive coldwater fishery. Situated within the Fremont-Winema National Forest, it offers a peaceful angling escape amidst scenic woodlands.

The best time to fish Lofton Reservoir for trout is typically from late spring through early fall, once the winter snowpack has melted sufficiently for road access (which can be late in the spring for higher elevation lakes) and before winter conditions set in. Summer months are highly popular for overall recreation and offer comfortable weather. Early mornings and late afternoons are generally the most productive feeding times. Access to Lofton Reservoir can be somewhat challenging, often requiring travel on unimproved gravel forest roads, which may be rough or impassable due to snow well into spring. There is usually an unimproved boat launch, but it is suitable primarily for hand-launched craft. Bank access exists around much of the lake's perimeter, but can be uneven.

Thee is a a robust rainbow trout population, diligently stocked in spring and early summer, ensuring reliable engagement. Incidental brook trout may also be present. Angling techniques are straightforward yet effective: static bait presentations with PowerBait or worms; dynamic spin-casting with spinners or spoons; or slow trolling from smaller, hand-launched watercraft. Fly anglers find success with nymphs or small streamers. Optimal fishing occurs late spring through early fall, contingent upon road accessibility from snowmelt. Access is often challenging via unimproved forest roads, with limited launch facilities. Regulations, meticulously managed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), mandate adherence to bag limits and gear restrictions for this secluded, productive mountain fishery. Preparedness for remote conditions is paramount.
