Cataract Lake is a quiet, 35-acre reservoir located on the outskirts of Williams, AZ, just minutes from historic Route 66. At about 6,800 feet elevation, this forested lake is stocked regularly with rainbow trout, and also supports brown trout, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and sunfish.

Spring and fall are the best times for trout fishing, especially soon after Arizona Game and Fish stockings. Anglers use PowerBait, worms, and salmon eggs near the dam and boat ramp area. Spinners and small spoons are also effective during early morning and evening hours. During the heat of summer, trout move deeper and become less active.

In recent years, brown trout have been stocked intermittently and are best targeted with streamers or minnow imitations. Bass fishing picks up in warmer months, with fish holding near submerged timber and rocky points. Soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits all work well.

Catfish are usually caught at night or near the lake’s northern shoreline using stink bait or cut bait. Bluegill and sunfish offer action for youth and beginner anglers with worms under bobbers.

The lake has improved facilities including restrooms, picnic areas, walking trails, and a boat ramp. It is part of the Kaibab National Forest and open seasonally depending on weather and snowpack.
