Shadow Cliffs Reservoir - Pleasanton, CA
Spot Information
| Fish Species: | Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Bluegill, Lightning Trout |
Located just a mile from downtown Pleasanton, Shadow Cliffs offers a scenic spot for fishing, swimming, and relaxation. Once a gravel quarry, the land was donated by Kaiser Industries and became a park in 1971. Its $250,000 assessed value helped secure a federal grant, launching development of this 266-acre park.
Today, Shadow Cliffs features an 80-acre lake, picnic areas, and accessible facilities. In addition to the main lake, the park includes an arroyo with smaller ponds—perfect for a quiet, shady retreat on hot days. Note: no swimming or boating is allowed in these arroyo areas.
In 2017, the park added a 1.2-megawatt solar panel system that powers most of the Park District’s electricity needs. It also includes EV charging stations, a recycled water system, and native tree plantings—plus shaded parking under the solar carport. Check posted signage for current trail and water updates.
As of April 23, 2025, the Lake Trail at Shadow Cliffs remains closed due to terrain damage. However, the section of Lake View Trail below Stanley Boulevard is now open. The lower connector trail from the North Beach bridge to Lake View Trail will remain closed until further storm repairs are completed.
