Newman Lake - Spokane, WA

Newman Lake, located just outside Spokane, is a 1,000-acre fishery known for strong warmwater angling and spring trout opportunities. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are abundant, and tiger muskies add a unique challenge for dedicated anglers.

Bass fishing peaks from May through September. Largemouths hold in shallow weed beds and along docks, responding well to spinnerbaits, plastics, and frogs. Smallmouths prefer rockier zones and deeper structure, where tubes and jigs are productive.

Crappie and yellow perch provide solid action around docks and submerged wood, especially in spring and early summer. Light tackle and live bait are highly effective. WDFW also stocks rainbow trout in spring—PowerBait and small spoons are go-to choices early in the season.

Tiger muskies, though rare, are targeted by casting large lures into open water or weedy edges. Any muskie under 50 inches must be released.
