Sport Fish
In Nevada, striped bass are found primarily in Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, where they were introduced in the 1960s and 1970s to create a sport fishery. These Colorado River reservoirs support self-sustaining populations, with fish typically congregating near dam tailwaters and rocky points. The Nevada Department of Wildlife recognizes striped bass as an important sport fish, with no bag or possession limits currently in effect to encourage harvest and help manage populations in these desert reservoirs.
Special Notes: Warmwater game fish. Found in Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, Colorado River, and some northern NV waters. No limit on striped bass at Lake Mead and Lake Mohave as of 2026. More NV regulations

The body of the striped bass is elongate and slightly compressed. The head is a narrow, cone-shape, and the mouth is large. The color is greenish above, silvery on the sides, and white below. There are six to nine horizontal blackish stripes on the side. In southern California, the much smaller salema occasionally is mistaken for young striped bass; the salema, however, has orange-brown stripes and larger eyes than those of striped bass.
