Hot.

The heat finally came. 95 in the Hirsch yesterday. That’s warm. Good news is it’s nice and cool in the mornings on the Truckee River. You’ll have your best fishing morning, and again very late in evenings. The fishing has been good. Flows are still kinda up. We’ll crush some numbers when they drop a bit and we can access and cross the river easier.

Typical summer pattern for us here on the Truckee River. Get out and get your nymph on in the mornings, and go fish right before dark again. Unless you have a good afternoon T-storm, you won’t see me out there in that afternoon heat, or actually anytime in the afternoon. The fishing is good. Lots of dinks with a good fish once in awhile. Good numbers wise if you can move efficiently in the river, and understand what kind of water trouts hold in, in summer. If you want your fish of a lifetime trout, see me in the winter, or spring. If you want to hook fish, see me now, and learn to tight line nymph.

So think caddis, and more caddis. Think crayfish here very shortly. Think caddis at night. Repeat until September.
