It’s summer on the Truckee River.

Good and hot in the afternoons, nice in the mornings. Flows could not be better, and the fishing is good all up and down the river.

I know where to find them trouts, when the water is warm. They can’t hide. Good dependable flows, and stable hot weather mean those fish are in the fast water. I know how to read that water and find fish. It should stay like that until September. It’ll stay like that in Nevada until almost October.

We’ve had good guide trips if you can wade around in the tough stuff, and you can get what I’m preaching. If you get what I’m throwing down, you’re gonna do well. This is the most technical time to be fishing this river. Not match the hatch stuff, but finding the slots and moving your rig in fast water, not getting hung up, and wading into the right zones. With one person that’s not hard to do, 2 is tougher, 3 is impossible.

I’ve been doing well in both states. Hirschdale to the state line, and West of Reno. My old zones in Reno are fishing really well. I’ve been waiting like 6 years for that. It’s on now, game time. It’s all the same type of water. If you can find fish in a certain type of slotted fast water, you can build a template and find that water anywhere on the river. From Squaw Valley to Sparks. There should be fish there.
