Much cooler weather and happy trouts on the Truckee River.

Had a few days this week that didn’t get out of the 70’s. Flows are great and a bit cooler than the first half of the month. Going into August, we will still have warm/ hot days, but nights will cool then get cold as we get towards September.

We’ve had off and on smoke and thunderstorms in the afternoons lurking into the next morning. Good fishing weather.

Like I say, flows have been good and the fish and fishing have been good too. Get out in the mornings and you should stick some fish. Most of these fish are cracked out on crayfish. Lots of bait in the river to fatten our trouts up. I almost feel like some days they don’t give 2 shits about our fake crayfish flies when they’re eating the real deal. I have neighbors, they’re mostly too old now to get around in the river. They’ve been skunked about 4 times in 50 years on the Truckee River. They used bait, live crayfish. Those old boys have some stories, including a 14lb rainbow they got here in Hirschdale.

I’m glad to say goodbye to July. It was way too hot
