Cool mornings, hot and windy afternoons. Blue bird sun all day, (except the last few days  of thunderstorms remnants from the monsoons in the 4 corners area).

Fishing is good if we get out in the mornings and nymph the pocket water. If you can wade around in the river, you're going to do much better than someone that can't. It's that simple.

Euro rigs usually reign supreme this time of year. Gets you in the water fish are holding in right now. Short precise drifts. Get yourself a 10,' 4wt, and learn to use it. That's the tool for the job.

So mostly nymphing -crayfish, all varieties, stones, smaller mayflies, and caddis.

Flows are pretty fair. Water temps do creep up in the afternoons. Boca on down to the stateline is good because of the cold outflow from the Little Truckee R. Everywhere else you need to have a thermomenter, use it, and take it upon yourself to practice ethical fishing. When it gets above 67, just stop. If you can't get out in the mornings to fish, especially through Reno, just don't fish.

4th of July weekend. Big weekend in Lake Tahoe, and on the Truckee River. Lots of folks in town. Just try to go Safeway in Truckee, I dare you.  Weathers been really nice. Not too hot at all. In fact cold in the mornings. That should change a bit this week, and we'll get back to more Summer /hotter weather. That should put trouts back into the oxygenated water.  Think pocket water all up and down the Truckee River. Fish be in...... Read More

Feeling the heat on the Truckee River. Mid 90's every afternoon in the Hirsch, with a shot at a thunderstorm or 2.  Good fishing if you get out in the mornings and can wade in the faster pocket water. Good luck if you can't. Probably be tough.  Flows are very good, and that's keeping water temps in the healthy range. 650, here in Hirschdale. And good news, 600 cfs, in Reno. Reno is the water you really have to worry about in...... Read More
