Donner Lake fishing has been fair, though increased summer boat traffic has made shoreline fishing more challenging during the day. Anglers targeting rainbow trout are having the best luck on the west end of the lake using PowerBait, worms, and inline spinners. Boat anglers continue to find suspended fish, with Mackinaw holding in 40 to 70 feet of water and kokanee schools suspended around 30 to 40 feet. The most productive fishing continues to be during the early morning from about 5:30 to 10:00 a.m. and again in the evening, when cooler temperatures, reduced boat traffic, and more active fish create the best opportunities for success.
