Davis is getting back to old form in a hurry. The Damsel hatch is on and usually starts mid morning. Callabaetis have been coming off around 11:00 am. This is the time to get your stuff and get to Davis. The fish are strong and most of them are really healthy. The best way to approach a day at Davis is to get there sometime between 7:00 am and 8:00 am.

Fish are cruising in shallow water looking for the Damsel migration from early until around noon. There is ample opportunity to sight fish from shore or from a tube or pontoon boat. A floating line with a long leader (10-16 ft) and two damsel nymphs on 3x-4x tippet will do the trick. Look for fish cruising, try to figure out which way they are going and lead them accordingly. Retrieve your flies really slowly for best results. In the late mornings you can switch to a Damsel and a Callabaetis and do a little more blind casting around the weed beds. You might want to try an intermediate line as the Damsel action slows. The air temps have been pretty warm and the really good action is usually over by 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon.
