Fish Reports

Jim Hartfiel of Just Rite Fishing at Pyramid Lake at (775) 575-7850 (home) or (775) 813-3411 (Cell): Yesterday (Sunday), we got 12 fish with over half of them in the 22-24 inch class. We were trolling close to shore at a depth of 12 feet in 20 feet of water. We were trolling Apex lures on downriggers along the west shore.

Chris and Jeri Grellman of Sparks of Hog Charters (358-5199): We are catching fish, 12 feet deep in 30-40 feet of water, along the shore. They are catching fish anywhere at the lake, even across on the other side. We caught more fish last week than any other week, so far this season.

Tim Wilson of the Pyramid Lake Marina and RV Park at (775) 476-1156: Fishing has picked up, but it is still not as good as it was last year, at this time. The boaters are doing much better. They are using Apex and Flatfish lures. The fly fishermen are using Woolly Bugger flies. There are some big fish coming in (8-10 pounders), but they are

George and Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555: Some fish being caught. It's been up and down, on and off. Nothing consistent. The fishing has not been as good as it was last year at this time. George (Cutthroat Charters) took some boy scouts out on Saturday and they had fun catching fish.

Valerie, Linda and Patsy at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400: Fishing is still a little quiet. The biggest fish last week was 8-pounds, 6-ounces (28 inches). It was caught by Pat Perman of Reno using a rainbow Herring at Spider Point. We also had a 7-pounder and two 5-pounders checked in.

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): The water is still holding up as it has been for the last two months. Sunday, a fly fishermen with an orange Nymph was catching fish right in front of our campground. Every day, there are 6-8 cars parked at Hangman's bridge to fish the Trophy Section. ?Į

Missy Swain and Shirley at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): The water is very low. We advise you to fish from shore.

Dennis Dunn, Mark, Rocket and Scott at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: Fishermen are catching rainbows (19-21 inches), perch and catfish (up to 4 pounds) by the face of the dam. They are using a double rig with yellow Power Bait on one hook and worms on the other.

The water and fishing pressure are both low, but anglers are catching some rainbow trout.

Fishing has been fair to good for anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove. Anglers trolling baits in 15-60 feet of water have had most success though still fishing and casting lures have also taken fish. One angler reeled in a pair of 11-pound fish while trolling with anchovies in four feet of water, and another reportedly caught a 28-inch striper while casting a "feathery lure"

Still fishing with anchovies has been productive for striper anglers in the Hemenway area. Some top-water action has taken place from Vegas Wash to 33-Hole. Live shad can be found in the Vegas Bay arm and also have been taking fish. For catfish try stink baits, chicken livers or night crawlers.

Boulder is low, but the fishing is great. While the aquatic vegetation makes things a bit challenging, anglers that can get out past the vegetation are still pulling in 14-inch rainbow.

Substantial fish kill over the summer. Recently stocked and warm water fish still in fair numbers. While the fishing has been slow, it is expected to pick up later this months as things begin to cool off.

Fair fishing for rainbow and brown trout to 15 inches in length. Good fishing for smallmouth bass to 8-10 inch inches in length. Dark patterns work the best in the turbid water. Fishing is always good in the stream high numbers of brown trout. Be stealthy when you approach the steam there is no cover.

The Truckee is fishing great. Jan Nemic reports the upper river is producing some nice 14'' to 16'' inch fish. Try using a weighted October Caddis pupa, or a small Cray fish as Trailer, dead drifting both. Pheasant tail have been have been working as well as Copper Johns. Lure fisherman try using Panther Martins in yellow and black.

Fishing is slow and flows are barely readable.

Boat fishermen going deep have reported fair to good success on rainbow and brown trout. Although fishing has slowed, shore anglers have reported some success in the early morning.

Shore anglers have been reporting some action where they can find open water around the aquatic vegetation that chokes the shoreline. Try using white spoons or black and yellow Panther Martins. Local Fly angler Austin Willis reports fishing remains good on the fly using black leach patterns in sizes 6 and 8. Some calibatis surface action try using may fly pattern. Boat ramps are a challenge due to low water conditions. The lake has many hazards with the low water conditions, boaters be careful. Wiper action is still good with new State record occurring once again. Reports of Some black bass and walleye are showing up as well in several location near the dam.
