Cold weekend on the the Truckee River. Brrr. Better for football watching than fishing.  Things look to warm up this week, and fingers crossed some rain and snow in the mix. We need to get that rain and snow. Keeps the fishing good through Summer, and will get it going now, Winter. We have the blue wing olives coming off now down on the lower Truckee River East

Ice Update: Good news! Areas off of Coyote Cove and Jet Ski Beach on the southwest shoreline, as well as some of the coves on the east side are measuring 4-5 inches, and are considered sufficient for foot travel. Pay close attention as there are many pressure ridges around the lake, and ice thins the further you get from shore. Always do an assessment of current conditions

Sunny days are here and then sunny days are gone. If anyone has followed or researched fishing Pyramid Lake they knows that this time of year that wind + clouds at Pyramid Lake can make the fish party like it’s 1999. Butttt…….. Ice Update! Currently we are averaging 5 inches around the boat dock! However, there still is portions of the reservoir with open water. So please check the ice if you choose to go out on it. State Park staff is reporting 5″ of ice in holes sampled near the boat launch. Be advised, this is glare ice, and is extremely slippery. Anglers are reporting ice measuring up to 10″ in some of the coves of the Hendricks arm and Penrod arm. Ice thickness is variable across the reservoir and conditions can change daily. Ice Update: South Fork is almost entirely frozen over, with a relatively thin "skin" of ice, measuring 1-2 inches at its thickest points. At this time, the lake is NOT considered safe for ice fishing. There also does not appear to be any spots along the shore currently for open water fishing access. With forecasted highs above freezing, but cold temps at night, we will monitor the

South Fork is almost entirely frozen over, with a very thin layer of ice measuring only 1 to 2 inches at most. These conditions are NOT safe for ice fishing. There is no accessible open water to fish at this time.
