Wild Horse Reservoir Update

by WILD HORSE STATE RECREATION AREA
Good morning everyone! We measured 7” of ice off the boat ramp going about 100 yards out. There are several sections of open water north and south of us. The edges are soft with open water in certain areas. We will be getting colder weather in a couple of days, which we hope will help with ice formation, but we will see. As of now,

For a trout bite, try fishing approximately 4 feet below the ice in up to 15 feet of water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
As of 2/7/25, park officials measured 7″ of ice off the boat ramp, with areas of open water and soft edges both south and north of the ramp.  Areas that were appropriate for ice fishing before may not be anymore. In the coves of Hendricks Arm and Penrod Arm, anglers are reporting ice 10″-12″. Trout are being caught in the 16″-22″ range, and trout are

Our ice is basically gone

by EAGLE VALLEY RESORT STAFF
We are sad to report that our ice is basically gone. Our entire shore line has several feet of open water along with the majority of the upper end of the lake. Please do not go out on what ice there is! #nvstateparks #vistlincolncountynv #pioche #ndow

Some areas of the reservoirs have open water, making it possible to fish for trout from shore

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Some areas of the reservoirs have open water, making it possible to fish for trout from shore. However, nighttime temperatures are still dropping below freezing, leading to skim ice along the shoreline. Any ice is too thin for ice fishing. There have been no reports of bass or crappie biting.

Dam reconstruction is complete, and the lake is sitting at 50 percent capacity

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Dam reconstruction is complete, and the lake is sitting at 50% capacity. Please note that shoreline access at Cave Lake is opened to the public, however recreational opportunities are limited. For more information on Cave Lake, please contact the NDOW Ely Field Office. As the water level rises, the public should not attempt to access the ice on the lake.

The water has recovered nicely and there should be decent shoreline fishing along most of the reservoir

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The water levels were recently lowered to repair the low-level outlet in November. The water has recovered nicely and there should be decent shoreline fishing along most of the reservoir. The reservoir was not stocked this fall due to the draw down.  Normal stocking efforts should resume in 2025.

Ice conditions have rapidly deteriorated at Comins Lake this past week

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ice conditions have rapidly deteriorated at Comins Lake this past week.  Approximately 90% of Comins Lake has open water.  Anglers can shoreline fish the northern portion of the lake or even launch a boat (dock will go in later this spring) and troll for trout and northern pike.  Decent size trout have been seen shoaling along the shorelines of the north lake. As of this

Illipah Reservoir is sitting at approximately 40 percent ice covered

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Illipah Reservoir is sitting at approximately 40% ice covered.  Anglers can fish most of the western shoreline and can even launch a boat and access a good part of the rest of the lake.  All ice should be considered unsafe and will likely remain unsafe.  A total of 9,012 rainbow trout averaging 9.3 inches were stocked this fall.

Night crawlers and mealworms are catching stocked rainbow trout

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Night crawlers and mealworms are catching stocked rainbow trout. The Nevada Department of Wildlife recently stocked trout in each of the community fishing ponds, Beatty and Hafen Park Ponds included. Anglers have reported catching a few catfish with night crawlers on warm afternoons. Although temperatures are beginning to warm up, the bluegill bite remains sluggish.

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
I spoke with Dana Judd this week. He ventured up last week and said the fishing was slow, but did have some luck on nightcrawlers from the  west shore past the bug station. This week, I would wait a little before heading down the shore. With the rains we just got, we don't need anyone to get stuck. For boaters, I would get up a

25.84 lb. Striped Bass

by RUSTY
This week, we have some exciting river news from the shores of the Colorado River, just below the Davis Dam. Local angler Bryan Werkmeister landed a couple of nice stripers while fishing from the shore in the Community Park area. He was using a swim bait and caught two stripers: one weighing 12.69 pounds and measuring 31.5 inches, and the other a trophy at 25.84

Rain and snow!

by MATT KOLES
Rain and snow! Yes, we need it. Every Winter is finger nail bitting on the Truckee River.  Look for the river to come up, how much? Well, probably not as much as you think. It's 400 cfs right now in Hirschale and going up. She'll come up lots more, but next week the rain will turn to snow, so it should drop back down quick.  Usually the best

Pyramid has kicked right back into gear

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Pyramid has kicked right back into gear over the last week or so, and the fishing remains great right now. The fish are really starting to transition on to some of the shallower beaches and beginning their pre-spawn feeding habits.  When fishing shallow and gradual beaches, midges are often the bug of choice and fishing 6-8 feet is a good place to start, depending on the

The Bites Been Starting Off Slow

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With the last week of cold weather, we’ve been seeing the bite start off pretty slow, even through mid-day, with the best fishing often being from around 1:00 until dark. As of now the water has been cold and clear and the smaller flies are going to be the ticket when these conditions are present.  Over the last week we have been doing best on midges

It’s nice seeing ice anglers out and about enjoying some ice fishing this weekend!

by WILD HORSE STATE RECREATION AREA
It’s nice seeing ice anglers out and about enjoying some ice fishing this weekend! We are seeing nice sized trout and anywhere from 8-10” perch being pulled out of the reservoir! We will be getting snow tomorrow, so please prepare accordingly! The surface is still really slick, so cleats are recommended. Our gift shop now sells them in case you forget them or need more.

Ice Update!

by SOUTH FORK STATE REC. AREA
The warmer days haven't had too much of an impact on ice conditions yet. Several areas along the shoreline of both sides of the lake are averaging between 5"-7" of clear ice. Watch for changes in conditions as we get wet weather this weekend. Always double-check thickness and be alert for sudden changes. Pressure ridges abound. Be safe and have fun out there. #icefishing #icesafety Nevada State Parks

Ruby Lake has 8 inches of ice at the main boat ramp

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ruby Lake has 8 inches of ice at the main boat ramp. The collection ditch is mostly frozen upstream of Bressman’s Cabin, with the lower portion still ice free.  All areas of the Refuge are accessible. Harrison Pass is open, but requires four wheel drive due to packed and rutty ice conditions; however, any snow at higher elevations this weekend could change that road report. Special

Ice growth has been extremely slow to nearly nonexistent at South Fork

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ice growth has been extremely slow to nearly nonexistent at South Fork Reservoir this year. Earlier this week, after the cold front, State Park staff reported 4″-5″ of ice along the southwest shorelines. These conditions are expected to change very quickly, especially with the warmer daytime temps and rain forecasted this weekend. We do not recommend accessing the ice at this time.

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
I had to dig this one up from a recent Mohave Fishing Club picture. Our local anglers are mentored by Gary Regan from our local high school. Gary, along with various assistants, takes groups of local youth out fishing. They mostly target stripers using anchovies while fishing from shore, hitting different spots along the Colorado River with great success. This club is open to anyone who
