The cooler weather this week has seemed to reduce the number of fish willing to play but has upped the average size with some really nice fish hitting the net this week. Water levels are lower, but the reservoir is in good condition going into winter. Water may be turbid due to recent cold fronts stirring up the bottom. Fall trout stocking occcured 11/08/24. Water quality has imporved with the cold weather patterns. Trout fishing is picking up in the shallows. Try floating worms or PowerBait off the bottom. Fly anglers are reporting success with dark-colored wooly buggers, balanced leeches and chironomid patterns. Fall trout stocking occured on 10/28/24 and 11/14/24. Bass fishing has slowed for the season.

The brown trout spawn seems to be winding down (at least in town) on the Truckee River. We have seen quite a few redds that no longer have fish on them. Interestingly, the streamer bite seems to have turned back on with larger browns becoming players again. Colder storms have really dropped the river temperature. Pyramid Lake remained at full pool, and water temperatures were near the mid-sixties. High winds made for challenging conditions early in the week. Luckily weather conditions improved. Large and smallmouth were located a bit deeper on points and bluff walls. Drop shot, Ned rigs, and grubs in Aaron’s Magic, Orange Crush, and Margarita Mutilator worked for bites.
