by MATT KOLES
The Summer heat is gone on the Truckee River. We'll still have our hot days, but its transitioning to Fall. Pine needle season if you know what I mean. It's kinda of an odd time. We really don't have any hatches, trout have been gorging on crayfish, and the streamer fishing ain't good yet.  How do you catch fish then? Well, you don't really need to be out

Our local angler, Russel Mynk, and visiting angler, Mason Rieth, landed some nice stripers using anchovies while fishing from shore. Our parks are great fishing spots to catch a few of these stripers. Rotary Park, Community Park,

Fly Fishing Report | Truckee River | mid August 2024

by RENO FLY SHOP
The river is continuing to drop, but it should stabilize soon. It is currently at 280 cfs at the Reno gauge. While this might feel low compared to the flows this summer it is actually slightly higher than the median daily flow as can be seen in the graph below. The triangles are showing the median daily for each day.  An upside to the lower flow

Not Too Much Change Since Last Week

by MATT KOLES
Rolling right along through Summer on the Truckee River. Pretty good fishing in the mornings.   Not too much change since last week, except that flows have come down a bit out of Boca. Nice in the mornings, hot in the afternoons. Pretty typical for us. So around 475 cfs, here in Hirschdale, and about 350 cfs, in Reno. We have a lot of water stored in the reservoirs.

Water temperatures are relatively the same as last week on the Truckee River

Water Conditions With temperatures remaining in the 80s throughout the weekend, water temperatures are relatively the same as last week on the Truckee River. In the upper sections of the Truckee River, the water is warm and not great for fishing. Anglers should focus most of their efforts from Martis Creek to the Stateline because colder water is being released into the river here. Here are

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
Local anglers Nolan and Marcy Chefalo recently had a successful outing in the Big Bend area. They were fishing from the shore of the Colorado River on the Nevada side using anchovies. Just a reminder: your Arizona fishing license allows you to fish on both sides of the Colorado River. What's even better is that they were using light tackle—Barbie poles, in fact—and still managed to
