Fish Reports

That's a wrap on Summer.  Indian summer now on the Truckee River. Nice brisk mornings, and hot afternoons.  Flows are great for wading and getting around all up and down the river. This is the start of the second season, and in most anglers opinions, the best season to fly fish.  I've mostly downsized my nymphs, and now's a good time to start streamer fishing.  The fishing is good

Water levels are low but holding, with aquatic weeds present near shore.  Fishing for trout is still fair due to warmer water temperatures, but should improve with cooling air temperatures. Fair to good fishing for bass has been reported with most fish in the 10-12″ range.  An occasional catfish is still be contacted. Channel catfish were stocked 5/23/24

Water levels are fair. Anglers report fair fishing for trout and bluegill of various sizes. Fishing is fair to good for bass. Bass are on the small end though, as they were recently stocked this spring.

Approximately 6,500 cutthroat were stocked on 08/12, 08/26 and 08/27. Flows have lowered, but are holding and water temperatures have increased slightly, resulting in fair fishing. For flyfishers, royal stimulators, elk hair caddis, royal wulffs, and hoppers should work well. For spinfishers, anglers may want to try a small, clear bobber with a worm.

Fishing remains excellent in the first few miles below Wildhorse Reservoir. Flows are being maintained through August and into September which will continue to result in good fishing into the fall. The grasshoppers are out in force and the trout will be keying in on those so anglers using the classic hopper-dropper rig will find success.
