Black Canyon Lake - Heber, AZ

Black Canyon Lake is a 78-acre, high-elevation trout fishery located near Heber, AZ, in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. It sits at 7,100 feet and is regularly stocked with rainbow trout from spring through early fall.

Fishing is productive using PowerBait, worms, salmon eggs, and small spinners like Panther Martins. Fly anglers find success with woolly buggers and midges, especially near submerged timber and inlets.

The lake allows electric motors and non-motorized boats. Shore access is good along the dam and near the boat launch, with float tubes commonly used. Submerged logs provide fish cover but can create snags, so finesse tactics work best.

Basic amenities include vault toilets and informal camping areas. It’s a peaceful, scenic spot ideal for both beginner and experienced anglers. Wildlife sightings are frequent, and the lake is recovering well from past wildfire impacts.
